Imperial Brick

We work exclusively with handmade, antique bricks from the time of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. When in 1819 Alois Miesbach decided to become a brick manufacturer and acquired the first brick ovens on the Wienerberg, he had something rather significant in mind. His nephew, Heinrich Drasche von Wartinberg, had the courage and vision in 1860 to acquire the patent for a brick kiln that reduced the firing time of several weeks to 6 days. The enormous need for building materials during this period favored Miesbach´s rise to become the largest brick manufacturer of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. As the court supplier he alone was allowed to stamp the Imperial coat of arms into the bricks, flanked by the letters A and M (for Alois Miesbach)and H and D (for Heinrich Drasche). With the end of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy in 1918 the manufacture of these traditionally fired, handmade double-eagle bricks ended. Original antique bricks from this period are now recovered and bought by our company when old castles and palaces are demolished.
